DGFT(Import Export Code)

DGFT stands for Directorate General of Foreign Trade which is responsible for import export code. The importer-exporter code is an identification number that is mandatory if you are doing import or export of goods and services. It is issued by DGFT and it has a lifetime validity.

Note: If you are running an IT Company which are deal with an International client and accept payment through Payment Gateways from foreign currency to Indian currency then IEC is mandatory for such transactions because some payment gateways provided ask for IEC if you are receiving foreign currency to Indian currency.

Who are eligible for the import-export code?

Any proprietorship, partnership firm, LLP, Limited Liability Company, Hindu Undivided Family(HUF), and society are eligible for it.
